Match Report: NCC (108/5 in 21 Overs, Abdul 27*, Ali 24, Sandeep 3/38) beat ECC (107/10 in 34.2 Overs, Wasif 46, Abdul 4/18) by 5 Wickets

NCC suffered a huge blow last week against POCC and was very keen to make amends against the last year champions ECC. We lost the toss which has become now formality and was put into field by ECC. It was very courageous decision as it had rained all day on Saturday and the bounce would have kept low. Maybe our opponents were thinking of putting a competitive score and then applying pressure using their trio of spinners.

We started bowling with Madassar and Asher. Both were very economical and dried up the run. Jeremy was first to go as he was trying to break free of strangle hold applied by our bowlers. Wasif joined Wynand and both of them found the scoring difficult. Wynand was eventually run out as they were frustrated and wanted to sneak a non-existent single. With Abdul bowling in full steam he got the wickets of Bilal and Manish in one over. ECC captain, Gursher, joined Wasif but he was also undone by brilliant Abdul.

At the20 over break ECC were 65/5 and were looking to regroup. However our bowlers kept on relentless pressure and our opponents were bundled out for meager 107 runs. Our target was not very stiff but we knew that Erlangen would try their best.

NCC started with their regular opening combo, Ali and Naveed. Ali was particularly severe on ECC bowlers and he smashed 3 sixes. We lost our first wicket at 40 in 10th Over when Ali tried to hit another big shot was caught in deep. Arshad joined Naveed in the middle and both batted steadily and safely. However Naveed could not keep his composure and got out as well trying to clear the long on. With 70/2 in 14 overs the game was petering towards an easy victory. However NCC kept their traditions alive of making the game interesting and in no time we were 85/5 after 18 overs.

Everyone was now looking nervous on our bench. But Abdul was having none of that he hit 2 sixes and 4 in space of 10 deliveries and we romped home in 21 overs.

In the end it was a convincing and very satisfying win against very tough opponents. But we still need to make our batting more solid. Our batsmen are getting starts but are not converting into big scores so would need to work on that. Bowling performed very solidly and was well backed by fielding. We would need to better that as well to win upcoming games.
