Match Report: MCC (208/6 in 40 overs, Waqas 3/27) lost by 1 wicket against NCC(211/9 in 39,3 overs)

The league season recommenced after 2 weeks break due to extended rainy season in Germany. We were up against very tough opponents MCC. The game was played in Englischer Garten which made the task even more daunting.

NCC lost the toss and was put into field by MCC. NCC got the first break through Madassar when MCC had scored 13 runs. The opposing captain came into bat at 1 down and began steadily. MCC was scoring steadily and was helped by our wayward bowling; soon they were 50 for 1. With things looking dangerous Swapnil bowled Veser, who was trying to leave the bowl but his stumps were pegged back. Then Weston joined Amit and both started building the innings. Weston was bowled by an out swinging Yorker and at break MCC were 88/4. Then there was 90 runs stand for 6th wicket, in the end we did well to restrict MCC to 208 with Captain Amit going not out after scoring 81 runs.

With a challenging total NCC started in typical fashion. Ali dispatched the first ball over the cover boundary for six runs. He repeated the dose in the second over as well, however got carried away and was bowled when bat slipped out of his hand. Afterwards wickets started tumbling and NCC was reduced to 45/5 after 13 overs. With the game seemingly lost our Captain Madassar and Abdul Wajid started building the innings. Both of them were cautious but were eager to pounce on any scoring opportunity. Abdul was in his usual mood and dispatched boundaries all over the park. At 20 overs mark we were 106/5, our run rate was good but we had lost more wickets.

Madassar added almost 70 runs for 6th wicket partnership but departed with score on 122 and was quickly followed by Ahmed. Our team was reduced to 122/7 after 27 over. The asking rate was not that high but numbers of wickets down were our Achilles heel. Abdul Wajid and Waqas kept on fighting and our 8th wicket was down on the score of 180. Abdul Wajid departed after scoring 93 runs, he hit 7 sixes and 7 fours in his innings. With 28 runs required we were left with last 2 wickets, our 9 the wicket got out on the score of 188.

Kashif was last man in, he and Waqas kept the score ticking. In the last over we need to score 11 runs to win the game. Waqas tried to cut the first ball of the over and it lobbed into hands of MCC fielder. However to our surprise the catch was spilled, now MCC was confident with our last man on strike but they did not know that even our last man is very capable batsman. Kashif bulldozed the ball for six over the long on. Now with only 4 runs needed of 4 balls, Kashif was in no mood to take the ball to last game. Then third ball was again smashed over long on for another six and NCC won the game by 1 wicket.

It was a very exciting game and it was very exciting to watch this nail biting game. However we should try to learn from our mistakes in this game and continue working harder in next games.
